The sumo scoop for real hard frozen ice cream where I keep my freezer to prolong storage time of meats and frozen veggies is excellent.
It is very well constructed, the pointed end helps a bit and it is a good weighted feel in your hand and comfortable to use.
Although the shape helps, a warmed sturdy half sphere scoop works good too, most of the time. If you are not on a budget this is a nice, and somewhat easier to use scoop, but if you have to watch your spending pass on it as a good traditional scoop will cost you about 1/2 as much. And for those really hard frozen half gallons and gallons, the use of a good ice cream spoon if you don't need nice rounded balls for cones or esthetic reasons cannot be beat. This is the best ice cream scoop I have ever owned. I had one from Pampered Chef that was very good, but it was misplaced at a potluck and I couldn't get another. I took a chance on this because of the great reviews. My wife used it first as I insisted she try it to see if it was everything it was reported to be - and she was very impressed. Worked great on deep freezer ice cream. Easy to use, easy to clean, easy to store!
