I have had plastic ice cream scoops which are just way too flimsy. I feel like I am going to break them if I apply the slightest bit of pressure while scooping out ice cream. Thankfully those days are done now that I have this Ice Cream Scoop by SUMO.
This scoop is designed to comfortably fit in your hand and give you a controlled grip. The scoop has a tear drop shape to it, and you can really dig into the corners of a ice cream container and get out plenty of ice cream in one shot. It is also very sturdy, and easily works its way through frozen ice cream. I never once feel like it is going to give out on me!
One tip that I have to create perfect ice cream scoops, is to run the scooping end under hot water for a few seconds prior to scooping out your ice cream. It will make it so the ice cream comes off the scoop easily, and it will have that professional ice cream shop look! After the first scoop, simply repeat the process!
I'm glad to have this in my kitchen. It will get use even more so as the hot summer months come along! Hello root beer float season!
Please note that I was sent this product complimentary to try out in my home in order to share my honest experience, thoughts and review.

Finally an icecream scoop that I can really use and get some icecream out of the box. I used to use spoons. I had to warm them up every minute to get the icecream out. This is just wonderful. Such a heavy duty ice cream scooper that fits nicely in my hands and is easy to grip due to the silicone handle. The scoop itself is pointed which makes it less of a hassle to scoop out icecream. It is also a pretty good size. I would definitely recommend it.
I received this for a review. My review is honest and unbiased and based on my personal experience with the product.

Finding an ice cream scoop that actually does its job can be a monumental challenge. I have tried nearly every type out there: the type with a curved metal strip that you depress a lever on the side of the handle and it “sweeps” the scoop of ice cream out of the spoon and onto your desired container, another that had a lever where a small strip of metal popped up from the spoon and pushed the ice cream out, and a standard scoop with no attachments. For each of these I found some sort of flaw in the design, the first model tended to skip gears, rendering the metal “sweeper” useless, the second spoon sometimes just smooshed into the ice cream without pushing it out of the spoon, and the third was so weak that the handle snapped when trying to scoop out partially-frozen ice cream.
The first thing that I noticed upon receipt of my Sumo® Ice Cream Scoop is that it has some heft to it. This is not a cheaply-made spoon with a hollow handle and inferior stainless steel construction, this is a product that will last you a long time with proper care. The blue rubbery handle securely covers the chunky handle of the scoop, given you both a tacky (as in it will not slip out of your hand easily) and comfortable grip, ensuring that you will be able to shovel ice cream with confidence! When factored in with the teardrop-shape of the scoop, digging into a pail of ice cream is even easier as it fairly “cuts” into the frozen treat without struggle.
I have never been happier with an ice cream scoop. Indeed, outside of being annoyed with the three models that I listed in my introduction paragraph, I never really gave much thought to the design and efficacy of ice cream scoops in general. Thus it was with great joy that I found that this scoop will facilitate me cramming delicious ice cream into my piehole EVEN QUICKER THAN BEFORE!! Yes!!! While the design makes it easy for a quick hand washing, the added bonus of this scoop being dishwasher safe means quicker cleanup!
The instructions on the scoop packaging offers the tip of running warm water over the head of the spoon so that it can more easily penetrate frozen ice cream; in addition, they suggest keeping a bowl of warm water to dip the spoon into between scoops. While these tips are not always necessary, I did find that following these steps was especially helpful with very hard ice cream. In addition I was able to truly dig into the ice cream without fear of breaking the scoop!
In the End
If you want a durable ice cream scoop that will not break, malfunction, or otherwise prove to be ineffective in dishing up delicious frozen treats, I highly recommend the Sumo® Ice Cream Scoop. The construction is top-quality, it is dishwasher safe, and the pointed tip of the teardrop-shaped spoon makes it so much easier to slice into even the hardest of ice creams. When you factor all of this into the considering which scoop to purchase, along with the realization that the handle is comfortable to grip and the solid-metal design of the Sumo® Ice Cream Scoop gives it a heft that helps with dishing up the ice cream, you really have the best model that there is. In case you are curious, I have retired my “sweeping”-style ice cream scoop to only being used when making cupcakes and/or muffins (sweeping batter out of it, along with it being the perfect capacity for its new task, is definitely a better use). My final say? The Sumo® Ice Cream Scoop is a must-have for any kitchen, and I can confidently recommend it for purchase for your home!

We've bend our fair share of spoons every year trying to scoop the ice cream out of the container. We've even gotten into the habit of putting the ice cream carton in the microwave for a few seconds so it is soft enough to scoop!
This ice cream scoop is great, it is very solid and able to withstand ice cream that is frozen rock hard! No more bent spoons! The handle has a comfortable, non slip grip which is very nice. The spoon part of this scoop is pointed at the top and a bit lopsided and wonky shaped,...it almost looks as if it had been shaped by hand. The different angles help you dig into the ice cream and get a good scoop going.
I have tried other ice cream scoops,...some have bent, chipped, and flaked so I had to throw them away. Others we have to soften the ice cream up first or you'll hurt your hand. This one is easy to use and even though it's a bit heavier, you can dig right down into the ice cream. Running it under warm water will help if the ice cream is still too hard to work with, which hasn't been the case yet for us.This scoop works great for our family!
*Update 4/30/15 - Since receiving this ice cream scooper it rarely ever sees the inside of a drawer, it seems to live in the dish rack on top of the counter, it is used that much!
