Fresh ice cream!

I have a Ninja Creami which requires a special container to prep the ice cream. I then can move the ice cream to the SUMO container which means I need less of the Creami specific containers. They keep the ice cream fresh and soft. It's easy to scoop of the ice cream it and easy to label the flavor. Perfect!

Excellent handle

I love the color and how easy it is to clean! How durable it is! It seems made better than many other ice cream scoopers. I love that the grip is super comfortable too! I love that it's long enough to hold! Seriously, you would not believe the crappy ice cream scoopers I've had that barely had a handle and that handle would pop off. So stupid. This one is great! The handle is comfy and cushy and fat in all the right places for an easy grip and I have hand disabilities. As an ice cream scoopers however, it is decent. It does it's job. It isn't magic. I'd still totally buy it again and use it again. I love it.

$20 for a container is on the expensive side. I am not sure the value over the much less expensive tubs.

Surprisingly weighty, will last a long time without damage from scooping hardened ice cream. Was undecided if I needed a scoop with the lever that helps get ice cream from scoop into the bowl (this does not have that). It is hard to get a well rounded scoop into the bowl without the lever thing. Works better (more presentable) if you let the ice cream soften for a few minutes.

The best ice cream container for Home Ice Cream Makers!

I am semi-new to homemade ice cream making and I have spent the last 6 months testing and trying so many ice cream storage options. I have tried everything available from disposable to "high end" to "low end" to restaurant quality. I tried options locally, from online retailers and even international retailers. I become obsessive when I start a new hobby, and luckily my husband is ok with it, lol, he does reap all the benefits!Why tell you that? It's because I felt you needed to know that I gave away (or in cases of really low quality I threw away) every other container except your insulated ice cream container.It has been the one container that outshines all the rest consistently.I could go on & on about how I tested, but I'm certain that would bore everyone, lol, but just know my ADHD brain can laser focus on only one thing at a time when I start research so it's safe to say I am 100% positive your container is the only one I need.Thank you for making a superior product that doesn't cost a fortune and will continue to do its job without breaking down too soon.

Best scoop for ice cream!

I have 4 of these scoops and I just bought a 5th so I have one at my FIL’s home. After several days of scooping some delicious Bluebell ice cream with a little spoon, I asked myself why I just don’t buy another for here. This is a perfect scoop. It is a stainless steel scoop with a comfortable handle that is easy to grip and that slightly pointed scoop will cut through even hard ice cream allowing for smooth scoops and not leaving a bunch of peaks and valleys on the ice cream surface that might develop water crystals. I chuck mine in the dishwasher after every use and they look brand new with almost daily us. the only negative is you want to be careful when you get towards the bottom of a carton so as to not punch a hole in your carton (especially true for pints). Don’t want your ice cream getting exposure. Do yourself a favor and just buy one (or 2, 3) and you’ll always have a clean scoop. You will not be disappointed!

Good product

So far I like the product but haven’t only used them a couple times. It doesn’t seem to leave frost crystals on the ice cream.

Wow! What a terrific scoop! I just tried it for the first time on ice cream from my freezer, kept at 0°F.With my old scoop, I'd have to scrape across the top and get little curls of ice cream because I wouldn't be able to dig into the container unless I let it sit out for a while.With my new Sumo scoop I went right for the center and had a deep scoop of ice cream with so little effort I was amazed. I hoped this scoop would be a little better than my old ones, thinking it would at least be dishwasher-safe because it's solid stainless steel. But this scoop is MUCH better than my old one, and I'm thrilled. The handle is very comfortable, and it doesn't get cold. The price is great, too.I recommend this scoop. You have been working too hard trying to get a scoop of ice cream with your current scoop. Buy the Sumo No-Thaw Hard Ice Cream Scoop!

Great to store ice cream and sorbet in

I hv four others on which I store my homemade chocolate and vanilla ice cream in bug needed something for the lemon sorbet. This freezes the ice cream and sorbet in without freezer burn on top (ice cycles).

Arrived dirty, but seller sent a brand new one!

Product itself is fine. But, there was leftover ice cream residue in the scoop. This was likely used and returned. I didn't want to deal with returning it, so I thoroughly cleaned it and kept it.UPDATE: Right after this review was posted, a brand new scoop arrived at my house! Thank you!!

This works great with frozen home made ice cream

We got a Cuisinart 1.5 qt ice cream churn and got this to assist in getting ice cream out of pint cartons after freezing the soft-consistency product. We take the carton from the freezer and put it in the refrigerator for 1 - 1.5 hours and then use this scoop to get it into the bowls. The hefty mass of stainless steel acts as a heat sink and melts the ice cream on the scoop surface making it easy to dig into and angles on the contact edges really facilitate that too. They say it's dishwasher safe with the silicone handle (which gives you a good grip), but we just give it a quick rinse under the kitchen faucet and put it back in the drawer. Great tool for anyone who likes to make homemade ice cream.

The sumo scoop for real hard frozen ice cream where I keep my freezer to prolong storage time of meats and frozen veggies is excellent.It is very well constructed, the pointed end helps a bit and it is a good weighted feel in your hand and comfortable to use.Although the shape helps, a warmed sturdy half sphere scoop works good too, most of the time. If you are not on a budget this is a nice, and somewhat easier to use scoop, but if you have to watch your spending pass on it as a good traditional scoop will cost you about 1/2 as much. And for those really hard frozen half gallons and gallons, the use of a good ice cream spoon if you don't need nice rounded balls for cones or esthetic reasons cannot be beat. Well designed and manufactured, but do you really want one?

The design is good, allowing the ice cream to fit snugly in the door of the freezer. I don't find any flaws in the manufacture either. It's true but irrelevant that the top is not tornado proof -- all it has to do is sit there, held on by gravity. I found, though, that I have little interest in making ice cream that is not any better than the "super-premium," more expensive stuff I can get in any grocery. So I give it fours stars for what it is, which is not what I want.

** UPDATED @ bottom **Sturdy feel to them… sleek nice design. Had no issue making ice cream and fitting it in. Def could fit 1.5 qt. BUT !!!!!!!!!!! My first time scooping out ice cream the plastic from inside container scrapped off with it. I was shocked, so I tried just a metal spoon thinking maybe I was too rough with my ice cream scooper. AGAIN plastic came off. Returning and disappointed :(***** Update —- after this review the company reached out and provided a full refund and to keep the containers for a different household use. Great communication, empathy and offered to send me a new product to give their company another chance. Besides this isolated issues this is what I’m looking for in a company when something hiccups. Impressed and will retry their products solely due to that customer service treatment.

The perfect storage for homemade ice cream

I recently started making homemade ice cream and bought these containers to store my creations. They’re perfect! They fit an entire 1.5 qt recipe in one container. I love that the container fits inside an insulated bin and the top snaps into place so that you don’t get any freezer burn! Plus, the slim design fits nicely in my freezer. I also appreciate that they’re dishwasher safe. I loved these so much that I ordered two more. One of the tops arrived with a small manufacturing defect but customer service was amazing, fast to respond and quickly replaced it. Highly recommend these!!

What I like most about this scoop is the high quality construction and thoughtful design—feels solid, yet is balanced so effortless to use. You will know this when you actually see it IRL and use it. IMO, best stainless steel ice cream scoop on Amazon.I was looking for a stainless steel ice cream scoop with a handle that spans the entire length of the handle; not the more common construction of a short post connected to a plastic handle (that will break at the connection point) of my Oxo good grips scoop, which broke at that connection point.Compared this SUMO to another stainless steel square-tip scoop by Honsen, https://www.amazon.com/Honsen-Solid-Stainless-Thickening-Handle/dp/B07SL1Y241, whose handle was way too short — not long enough to fully grip and get enough leverage to actually scoop frozen ice cream. The penultimate ice cream scoop!

This is a well made, sturdy implement with a nice heft. It does not flex in use and has nice wide ergonomic handle which makes digging out stubborn hard ice cream a breeze. This scoop is hands down the best one I have ever used. The addition of a hot cup of water to preheat the scoop makes it even easier.

Hello, so far the SUMO ice cream container is great. I'm using the container to store homemade ice cream which was made the old fashioned way (bucket, ice, rock salt etc). I have been storing current batch of ice cream for the last 4 days. The SUMO is doing a terrific job. The ice cream is easy to dip straight from the freezer no thawing or sitting out required. The shape of the tub does make it easier to dip. There were no crystals noted and the lid seals perfectly. I do not usually review purchases but this one is definitely worth reviewing. The tub does fit in my freezer door. I bought two and will be giving the second to my mom. Great design and product. Thanks!

Excellent container for homemade ice cream

The shape is the key to this being a great product. It makes scooping out the ice cream so much easier than a traditional ice cream container. I use a Cuisinart 1.5 quart ice cream maker and this pairs well in terms of size. It's good for stacking and storage in the freezer as well. The seller is super responsive as well.

Well it's the quintessential ice cream scoop. Single piece for strength, with a glued on grippy handle. Typical shaped bowl allows the stuff to curl into a ball if you're scooping from a big bucket of ice cream.Pointy end to penetrate hard ice cream. I've bent spoons scooping hard ice cream, but this won't bend for sure and makes scooping easier.It's machine washable according to the instructions, no special care or cold water washing required.

After 6 years of very light use , and washing in dishwasher the handle is rotting, I wish I had bought a solid metal scoop.

I purchased a purple and a red container. The lid for the red does not seal very well at all. The red insert seems to fit the outside liner looser than the purple one as well. Maybe just a bad batch. The purple seems perfect. I purchased another purple one. We'll see.

I got this ice cream scooper to scoop ice cream more easily. It’s well made and attractive. It scooped up our ice cream very well. I like the thick, comfortable, soft handle. It has a nice weight and sturdiness to it, which helps with the scooping.I also like that it’s dishwasher safe; I ran it through the dishwasher and it came out clean and intact. Overall, I would recommend it!

I don't know if there's anything specific about the design that makes it better, but this thing is heavy enough to kill a T-Rex. Put it in hot water for a minute and you have a winner.

I needed an ice cream scoop, but did not want a plastic one or one with the scrape thing to get the ice cream off of the scoop (always breaks off eventually), basically, something sturdy and efficient. After reading all of these reviews, which many were hilarious, I gave the sumo a try and it was amazing! It gives you the perfect scoop of ice cream, like ice cream shop style, but less effort; it just glides through the ice cream. The scoop has a good weight to it and feels nice in your hand. It's super easy to wash. Plus, it's a really good price for the quality! I like it so much, I'm going to check out what other stuff sumo makes.

This scoop is heavy, has a pointy tip, comes in great colors, is easy to grip, scoops beautiful ice cream “balls,” and is dishwasher-safe. Enough said.

I have never tried getting a specific container for my ice cream making season. It's been the best thing for me. But now I need to get more cause there is way too many flavors to try.Thank you for such a great item 😊

They are okay

The units seem fine. However, the insulated base seems to be a bit of an exaggeration. The base is in two layers which were not even together in the product I received. They did click together pretty easily but you are not getting a vacuum layer between the outside and your ice cream. I hand washed mine so I have not tested the dishwasher safe aspect.

Do you really need a special container for ice cream? Yes ! Make it this 3 piece, perfectly shaped container.

Using this has made a believer out of me. It really does protect ice cream from freezer burn, and the elongated narrow shape is ingenious—so easy to make the perfect scoop in one motion**. No more partial shards of ice cream dished from a “short” container that stops the scooping motion. Added bonus of the shape of this container is the space saving footprint, perfect for a packed-to-the-gills freezer.

I chose this 3 piece container because it is EZ to clean. I saw another similarly shaped container on Amazon, but it could not be taken apart for cleaning. That was an important consideration for me bcuz our homemade ice cream is not cooked (no eggs), thus, its almost like a raw food, where hygiene and storage are very important.

One last point...as with any frozen dessert, make sure to place a piece of parchment paper or plastic wrap on the top surface of the ice cream, then cover the container with the tight fitting lid. The sealed surface is an important step in preventing freezer burn.

Dissappointed, container doesn’t hold much and doesn’t provide an air tight seal in container. Lid just lays on top. Not something you want in freezer long. Overpriced for value.

Great ice cream scoop!

I love this scoop. The handle is comfortable and sturdy. The metal is stainless, not a coating that will peel off. I recommend hand washing so it doesn't bump up against table knives in the dishwasher. That can result in nicks in the handle. Great ice cream scoop!

Disappointed

Once placed in the freezer my homemade ice cream was frozen solid. Had to leave it out a while in order to scoop it out. Was disappointed as other reviewers said their ice cream was easy to scoop out.

Attractive and nice shape for ease of storage

I like the size and the heft of the container, but....I was disappointed to find after 36 hours in the freezer, to find ice forming on the homemade banana ice cream inside the container.

You’re better off finding one that’s not as complicated.

It’s doubled plastic and so, durable, easy to clean. The homemade ice cream doesn’t last but a few days in the freezer, it’s so good! So as to the freshness, 3 stars sounded accurate to me. 1. It takes super strength to pry the double plastic apart for hand washing. And 2. The lids don’t fasten in place, like with a ‘click’, so they slide off easily. That is the real down-side for me.

Designed well

This felt solid and balanced in the hand, it’s scoop is a hybrid of a spoon and a traditional ice cream scoop. It cuts into hard frozen ice cream without extra pressure on the wrist. The handle is weighted but in a way that makes scooping easier on the hands and wrists. Both of my parents used it and were pleased with it. It’s fantastic that it’s dishwasher safe and stainless steel so we don’t have to worry about the surface pitting in the future. Definitely a good purchase!

Nice design but the lid pops off too easily

Nice design but the lid pops off too easily. I was transporting some homemade ice cream in an insulated bag to work and the container leaked all over the bottom of my bag. I would prefer for this container to have a fastening latch of some kind.

Not pint-sized.

The description said these were pint-sized but the picture shows a quart. This is a quart-sized product, which I returned.

Don’t buy this

The container is fine until you try to separate the bottom inside liner from outside. It’s almost impossible to separate the 2 pieces. I tried washing it without separating the 2 pieces and water got in between the pieces and Water and soap could not be removed without separating. The 2 pieces need to be pried apart with a lot of force or they don’t move. I cut my finger pretty bad doing this. This container is going in the trash before I hurt myself again!!

Solid and sits in your hand well. No need to pre warm it, just scoops straight from the draw. Wife was very impressed and she has weak wrist from arthritis. Highly recommended.

Nice & Heavy Duty!

I wasn't expecting too much from this ice cream scoop but I was very pleasantly surprised when I received it. This thing is HEFTY! You can immediately tell it's very durable and a quality item. It cuts through solidly frozen ice cream with no issues. I love that this is dishwasher safe and free of plastic making it very food safe. The scoop size is decent so just a couple scoops is a generous serving size. The price makes it a great value since it likely will never need replacing! Highly recommended!!

Not exactly water tight for washing

The size is actually quite nice. The ease of opening and closing the lid is nice. The color is nice. What is not nice is after we washed it that water got in between the outside and inside layer. Not sure if we just received one that was defective or if this a problem with the design. And the design besides that is very nice. It is just the right size for ice cream. Wished it had washed better. Made in China.

Best Ice Cream Scoop

This is easily the best ice cream I've ever owned. It's a wonderfully SOLID metal scope, so this thing can dig into a rock solid block of ice cream and not be phased by it at all. I never have to worry that it's going to bend or break. There is enough metal to retain some heat if your ice cream is particularly hard that will help it cut through it. It being solid also means no water can manage to seep its way inside leading to mildew growth overtime as it doesn't evaporate (I've had this problem on other plastic scoops with hollow handles). The grip is soft with enough texture that the handle won't slip out of your hand.I bought two, I love this scoop that much. Owned the first for several years now and it doesn't look worn at all, and no corrosion on the metal. Zero complaints about this scoop.

A must have for Ice Cream makers

I love this Ice Cream container. It has an outer protective layer and an inner layer to help prevent freezer burn on your ice cream. I love that it's long and thin because it makes scooping ice cream SO EASY. Some reviews mentioned the ice cream being too heard to scoop? I think that was the maker/recipe. If you add a tablespoon or two of rum to your ice cream mix it makes it nice a soft for scooping later. This is easy to clean. I have cleaned it by hand and also thrown it in the dishwasher - both easy to do. The top seals perfectly and makes a nice "clip" sound so you know it's locked into place. I bought one just to see it's performance and like the quality so much that I will be purchasing additional ones later. Thanks!

Wow, after all the great reviews I was really expecting this to be the answer. Sadly, I don't think it's that great. I usually use a metal large spatula type that I got from meadowgold and it is far easier to use than this style. Perhaps if I was trying to scoop ice cream into a cone, this would be the better option, but for just scooping it out and getting it into the bowl with the least amount of effort, this isn't all that great to me.

Finally, The Search Is Over, We Found A winner!

We were searching for an ice cream scoop after our not so old one "peeled" when we put in the dishwasher! I read almost all the reviews on this scoop by SUMO and I was persuaded. We purchased it and when it arrived, it was time for testing. My hubby is very involved in this department, so he scooped the ice cream as he always does. His comments: "I love it, it is very nice." It has been used more times and he said it doesn't slide around in his hands as our old one; it has a firm grip and it digs right in the ice cream without a lot of effort "pressing and bending over to where his head would sometimes hit the kitchen cabinet above! Ha ha" I have handwashed it at all times just because I do most of my dishes. We are really impressed! You are looking for one, get it with the different colors, it I a a plus! I got red to match other kitchen gadgets and contrast the "gecko" color on my wall, well done SUMO! I will recommend to those looking for a good ice cream coop!

It's a great ice cream scoop

This is my second purchase - first one was for me and the second is a gift. It's a great ice cream scoop. It works well, is comfortable in the hand and is hefty enough that it could be used as a weapon (although I don't condone violence).Mine has held up well but I will admit that I usually wash it by hand rather than running it through the dishwasher.My only complaint is that the color purple has changed. My first one is very dark, almost a deep blue while the new one is a very bright, vibrant purple. Since the only other choice was a neon green I went with the purple thinking it would be like my original purchase.Would give this scoop a five star rating but it is rather pricey and I'm not a fan of the current color options.

Such a nice change from wimpy scoops or spoons that bend or break.

A couple of times, when grabbing some other utensil, I've even taken it out of the drawer just to hold and admire it.

It has enough mass to it that when it's heated under hot water it retains its heat long enough to get a really good scoop of even the hardest ice cream.

The first time I used it I was absolutely delighted. I'm sure this scoop will last the rest of my life.

not great at preventing freezer burn

I've had these SUMO ice cream containers for a few months now, and they haven't done much to prevent the freezer burn issue that I had before using Rubbermaid Food Storage containers (the ones with the easy-find lids). I figured the extra space taken up (due to the dual-wall design) would be worth it if it was effective to reduce or prevent the freezer burn, but it has not been my experience so far. Otherwise these are ok containers.

Good Design

Very good design for freezing and storing homemade ice cream. On the pricey side (that’s why I only gave them 4 stars) so I probably won’t buy more but I do like them.

Best ice cream scoop ever

Yes, this scoop really is as awesome as everyone says. I never thought there was that much difference between brands or styles of ice cream scoop until I gave this one a try based on the reviews. I was torn between this one and the nearly-identical Oxo and went with this one. Not having used the Oxo, I can't speak on its quality, but I'd be surprised if it's any better than this. I've been using it on pints of ice cream (Ben & Jerry's Non-Dairy, to be specific) and with such a small surface area in a new container, it was always hard getting it started with my old scoop, with plenty of elbow grease required and, frequently, bits of ice cream being flung onto the counter (even after running the scoop under hot water first). No more! This one cuts right in without even having to wet it and easily allows me to get however much I want into a bowl. I've run it through the dishwasher a bunch of times and haven't noticed any degradation. I'm always suspicious when products have so many great reviews and it turns out the reviewers got the item for free or at a discount, but in this case the hype is real.

Good gift for the ice cream connoisseur

Bought this for my Dad because he tends to pull out a knife when serving ice cream and I wanted to give him a dependable alternative. He has used it a number of times already (we're ice cream eaters)! I haven't used it myself, but my Dad seems to like it.

I have had two of these containers for years and love them! I frequently make homemade ice cream & these do a great job keeping it from getting covered with frost.

Well if it were easy to hold. I would not have dropped it and cracked it on the second use. It was easy to clean. Stores nice in my freezer door. But sturdy not. It was frozen when I dropped it.

Cute but not airtight

The design is decent, but the lids don’t fit well and tend to dislodge in the freezer. We have already had freezer burn on one new batch.Update: after the return window closed, the retailer was kind enough to reach out and offer to replace the items or refund the price. I opted to replace, and the new ones just arrived. One of the pieces is even worse than the first set, with none of the components fitting together properly. The other piece, thankfully, is exactly as it should be. At least I have one airtight one now.

Scoops Easily But Should be a Bit Deeper.

I like this product because it is heavy and scoops ice cream very easily. The design reminds me of the scoops I used when working at a restaurant that served ice cream. What I don't like is that the ice cream does not easily stay in the scoop. I had to use my finger to keep it from falling out. Usually the scoop holds the ice cream so you can serve it. The scoop part is not deep or rounded enough to do this, so while it scoops easily you need to "help" the ice cream stay in the scoop. Overall, a good product though.

My husband and I used these for homemade ice cream at our wedding. We lined these up in a custom cooler. We actually had to keep the top off the cooler and lids off the containers for a while before serving so the ice cream wasn’t rock hard. We now use one to store frozen bananas. They do take up quite a bit of space in the freezer, but work really well.

Rubber Handle Traps Water - Potential for mold.

I found that the top of the rubber handle was not sealed completely around the neck of the scoop - thus trapping water and making it impossible to fully dry. The scoop works very well for its use - it scooped out hard ice cream very easily and even more easy after running it under hot water which was exactly what I was looking for. However, I believe I either got a defective scoop or there is a flaw in the manufacturing because one of the first things I noticed with the scoop when I opened up the box was that there was an area at the neck of the scoop where the rubber meets the steel that was not fully sealed. While it is not a problem now, I do not want to be using a scoop with food that can potentially grow mold or leak old water out of the handle.

WOW! Finally, an ice cream scoop that lives up to its promises!

Our old ice cream scoop (which we owned for about 6 years, similar to this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DVFET9S/ref=s9_dcacsd_bhz_bw_c_x_1) broke recently when the handle separated cleanly from the neck/bowl section, and I have been on the search for a replacement. Our freezer has a tendency to keep ice cream solidly frozen, rendering it hard to scoop. I have had several different scoops in the past, some of which worked better than others, so for this search, my criteria was as follows:

1. Easy to clean, preferably dishwasher-safe.

2. Solid stainless steel bowl that won't pit or lose its coating.

3. Good, comfortable grip.

4. Ability to cut through hard ice cream with ease.

5. Good scoop size for serving in bowls and sugar cones.

6. Easy ice cream release (little to no sticking).

7. Durable.

8. Reasonably priced.

9. High satisfaction write-ups on Amazon and other sites (especially those written by reviewers who did not receive the item at a discount in exchange for a review).

I started by looking at a variety of styles & features: trigger/lever release mechanisms; antifreeze in the handle; spade-style; made from a single piece of metal; comfort grips; stainless steel bowls (both round and oval); non-stick coated, etc. After reading many reviews (both pro and con) for the different styles, and comparing these with the results of the America's Test Kitchen ice cream scoop tests, I opted to purchase the SUMO ice cream scoop.

I am thrilled with my decision! I am a big OXO Good Grips fan, however, having read a number of reviews of the OXO model, it appears that there have been some problems with the bowl either rusting or pitting over time. Because the SUMO scoop comes with a lifetime guarantee, I chose it over the OXO scoop (at the time I purchased it, it was also less expensive). After I purchased the SUMO scoop, I read that OXO stands behind their products as well, but I'm happy with my purchase.

As other reviewers have mentioned, the scoop arrives nicely packaged in a box. At the time of my purchase, the only color available was purple. (I am not a huge fan of purple, but heck, it's an ice cream scoop, so color wasn't a deciding factor. And it's a darker purple, not a pastel lilac color, so it's fine.) It's got a nice weight to it – solid, but not too heavy. I took out a new carton of ice cream from the freezer (Friendly's Black Raspberry) and tested the hardness with an 18/10 stainless steel soup spoon – it was pretty difficult to get my spoon to do much in terms of scooping, due to the hardness of the ice cream. I then tried the SUMO scoop. SUMO claims that their scoop "glides through hard frozen dessert like butter". Boy, does it ever – it absolutely cuts right through hard ice cream, making it a breeze to serve! I was shocked at how easy it was to scoop up the ice cream – as well as how easy it released into both sugar cones and bowls!

After repeated use (and multiple washes in the dishwasher) I am still thrilled with my SUMO scoop. It meets all my required criteria, and then some! The pointed tip (which wasn't one of my original criteria) makes it easy to get into the corners of rectangular ice cream cartons, so that no ice cream is wasted. And having a scoop made from a solid piece of stainless steel – rather than one that has a separate neck and handle that have been welded together – means that I don't have to worry about this one breaking the way my last one did. My husband, my 10-year old son and I can all use this scoop easily - and the grip is comfortable for all of us. I highly recommend this scoop!

Reviewers raved that these containers prevent freezer burn, but mine didn’t. I’ve made a few batches of ice cream and all of them had ice inside around the edges. (Freezer isn’t set too high.) The double containers in one are also slightly hard to get apart to wash.

Nice ice cream scoop. After a few months, the handle is a bit loose but it still functions better than anything else in my drawer. I highly recommend it.I usually wait a minimum of six months before writing any review in order to fully test a product and its durability.

I ordered the two ice cream containers and the outer insulated cracked badly one one. I emailed the company and told them about. Later I realized the problem was pre freezing the containers with the 3 pieces separated before making ice cream. The break must have occurred when I put the the pieces back together right out of the 0 deg freezer. I didn't ask for a refund or replacement although I thought they might send the replacement parts. A couple days later Amazon refunded my account for this purchase. Then today I received a new replacement pair from the company along with their fantastic stainless steel ice cream scoop (I have another one I bought a couple years ago). Anyway I appreciate Sumo taking care of this so well without me even asking.

It's ok

It is hard to get the ice cream off the scoop, but the weight and the feel of it in your hands is great. Your able to get a grip of the scoop well and you don't feel any of the cold from the ice cream.

Bought for ice cream and sorbet that I make with my Cuisinart. Just received today. Love quality but this will be perfect for placing herbs in water and keeping in refrigerator so they last longer. I just put cilantro in it and I've done this before and they'll last for maybe 2 weeks! Simply rinse and change water at least daily. I'll put carrot sticks or celery in water. I'll try with fresh fruit. I'm doubt the plastic can be used for microwave but that's not what it's for. Quality and construction with non stick silicon edge on bottom...perfect! Love the green! Perfect for my homemade ice cream

Holds the exact amount of ice cream that I make in my Cuisinart Ice Cream maker. I had an early version where the lids did not stay on, but these have a little snap into place. Keeps every cold without ice crystals. I would buy again and give as gifts to ice cream making friends.

I really love this scoop. I have trouble with my hands lately due to a thumb injury. But, this scoop just glides through really hard ice cream straight from the freezer. It works exactly as described and I love it!

Strong but loose cover

First of all, very impressed of how hard and sturdy is the container. It looks and feels great. In that sense I am very happy. However, the covers that are made of a very soft rubber don’t seem to get very tight and I am worry that after a few uses air is going to get in the ice cream and destroy the creaminess.Again, happy so far but extremely concern about to top.

Disappointed

Bought two containers in August 2020 & I finally got around to using them February 2021. Long story short, was pulling container out of the freezer, it slipped out of my hands fell & hit the floor (drop was about 15 inches, shelf to floor). As soon as it hit the floor, by the sound made upon impact, I knew it had cracked. When I picked it up, sure enough it was damaged. I get it, it's plastic, the ice cream is frozen soild, so what did I expect. Anyhow I switching to paper containers from here on out.

Not worth it.

The lid just rests on the container, doesn't prevent freezer burn at all. Ice-cream after only 2 weeks already has ice crystals on it..and is impossible to scoop. It's hard as a rock. Not really impressed with this product. Didn't work any better than using my Lock and Lock container which has a locking lid that prevents ice formation. No, I don't recommend it.

This product is inferior to the Tovolo insulated ice cream container. It keeps ice cream frozen, but the lid does not snap in place securely like the Tovolo. I've used them a few timea and don't think I can return them, but I wouldnt buy more.

The first scoop I received had a small chip on the tip. The good news is the scoop is indeed solid stainless steel. I contacted Yuca/Sumo with a photo and they promptly replied the same evening and sent out a replacement. It was great customer service!I've had the opportunity to try out the scoop and have no complaints. It feels balanced, and it cuts through the ice cream easily. I washed it in the dishwasher scoop side down (as another review suggested) and have not had any issue with water in the handle.Overall, I had a great experience with this product and the company. I would make two recommendations to the packaging though, to make this product feel more like a premium item: a twist tie or something to secure the scoop inside the box, and stronger/longer tape at the ends to secure the colored box sleeve to the box.

Perfect for what I need and excellent customer service

When it comes down to it; a product may be good but its customer service makes it great, and this is the case with SUMO. So, first off the product itself....I bought two of the 1.5qt containers for homemade sorbet / ice cream. The container is a "double wall" type container. The inner container can be removed from the outer container for easy cleaning and I'm guessing it stops condensation from forming as well. Another little "nice thing to have" is the rubber base that keeps the container in place when scooping. So, for me this is the perfect container now that we're making sorbet / sherbert / ice cream etc at home.

Second, one of the lids was slightly warped so it would not seal the container completely. I called customer service, who, without hesitation, sent me a replacement tub. I only needed the lid but they sent an entire new container. I wasn't trying to get something for nothing, so when you stand behind your product without question, that makes me your customer every time I need a product like this and I will tell others the same (which is the point of this review).

Folks; the product is a good product; right priced and they stand behind their product. If this is what you're looking for, spend your money here.

I really like homemade ice cream, but have always had a problem finding a good way to store it once churned. This works very well. Because home churned ice cream has less air than commercial, it freezes up harder and is harder to scoop out than the commercial stuff. This container provides a very slick surface, so it releases the ice cream easier than the makeshift containers I've used previously. The shape also makes it easier to scoop from than those other things I've used (but not really easy unless you let it rest outside the freezer for a few minutes). I have one fairly minor issue and that is that the lid does not stay in place completely air tight, so the tub won't work well for long-term storage. Fortunately, my homemade ice cream never faces long term storage.

One lid warped

I actually do like this product a lot but one of the lids warped after first freeze. I have to use rubber bands to keep lid down. Other then that, I love how it fits in the freezer door and it is actually easier to scoop out ice cream then a more square container.

This product seemed great at first. However, it is incredibly difficult to scoop the ice cream out because the surface area is so limited. It is also difficult to open the lid when cold. Lastly, the biggest disappointment of all, even after only hand washing a couple times I noticed condensation within the barrier of the container.

Nice design, easy to use

This scoop has a very ergonomic design, and I love the purple color. It also scoops hard ice cream quite easily; however, for the life of me I can't get mine to come out nicely in a circle, which I thought this scoop was supposed to do. Nonetheless, it does the job of scooping frozen ice cream well.

Nice containers

I would have given 5 stars but I held back 1 for the lids not snapping in firmly. I did not over fill the containers with ice cream and still one lid just kind of sits on top, another pops in but only lightly. I was hoping for more of an air tight seal with the lids.

Still prefer grandma's spade

A notable improvement over many, but the insulated handle should give it away. Because heat cannot transfer from the hand, the scoop doesn't stay as warm, making scooping harder. I still like the all-aluminum, spade-style we got from grandma (like they use all ColdStone creamy.)

The lid stays ajar. I ordered the two pack and it does it on both of them after freezing. The ice cream won't last as long exposed to air. They need to change the lid on this product to stay sealed air tight.

Lid doesn't snap shut

I have purchased 4 other Sumo ice cream containers. The lids always snap closed. I have been very happy with them. However, the lid on the one that just came does not snap shut. I just rests on the top. Not happy.

These are a really good size and they seem to be really durable. However, the lids are not easy to close at all and are not secure when closed. It's really easy to have the lid slip into the soft ice cream when transferring it to the freezer for the first time.

Nicely insulated, ice cream stays easy to scoop. That is, if you can get the lid to stay on. It’s hard enough to snap on when it’s warm and you’re just filling it, but it’s impossible to reseal after reopening it.

Amazingly, I left this container out of the freezer last night for the ice cream in it to soften a little and I got distracted, only to remember 45 minutes later. I opened it and the ice cream had softened to a perfect scooping consistency but did not melt! The double insulated container helped keep it cold enough, even on an 80degree day! I agree with other reviewers that the shape of the container is desirable for scooping out ice cream into nice, round scoops, without the need to dig deeply in one place. I was a little worried that the lid wasn’t Closing securely, but I have not noticed any freezer burn or ice formation inside after storing the ice cream for a week, so it is doing a great job! The low profile of the container is perfect for storing in the smaller freezer drawer of my French door fridge-freezer.

Nice rig

I bought a somewhat similar one about a year ago, but it was chrome plated and the chrome started bubbling up. This one is solid stainless steel, so it will not have that problem. It is ergonomically quite nice. Recommended.

This is a nice size ice cream container. The inside is rounded, so you don't have to fight with the last bit of ice cream stuck in the corner, trying to get it out with a rounded scoop. I like that it's narrow, so it will fit in a small freezer. It seems to be made well. The one thing I don't like is that it's not air tight.

The seal is my only gripe

This is a nice little container for storing your homemade ice cream. It's made of two pieces of plastic that are insulated by an air gap between them. The two pieces can be pulled apart relatively easily (and in my case, accidentally). The advertised capacity is probably a bit shy of the 1.5 quarts, but I will admit that I haven't actually measured. I know my standard ice cream base is about 1 quart liquid and probably expands with air a little bit as it churns and it will fill this container right to the brim when it's done. It seems durable and is very easy to clean. My only complaint comes from the lid. It seals OK and that's it. It's not very tight, it doesn't give a solid "click" if it's in place. It just kinda goes on and sits there with very little indication that it's solidly in place. I would prefer a recessed O-ring seal all the way around the container for a really airtight seal. Otherwise it's great. I don't feel the need to replace it or complain about it in any other way. I keeps my ice cream frozen and does so quite well in all honesty. A better lid couldn't hurt, but it's perfectly serviceable as-is.

Leaky mess

Great for scooping ice cream. Also great for retaining washing up water between the steel and the rubber handle cover which then leaks everywhere in the cutlery drawer while you sleep off your ice cream coma.

I didn't realize the contained was "double-walled". Cleaning will require taking all three (not two) parts apart to wash and dry thoroughly. We are excited to see how they stack up to the other reusable home ice cream containers we have been using.

Narrow width

This is perfect for homemade ice cream. Due to the narrow width it is somewhat difficult to pour the ice cream into it without it spilling all over the place. Wish it were a bit wider.

Water leaked into the handle and it never comes out. The rubber part of the handle doesn't come off so I can never dry it. Other than that, it works well...

Here's the scoop!

The Sumo ice cream scoop is great! I love the weight and shape of it. It digs right into a fresh carton of ice cream with ease. The best part is that it is dishwasher safe. We ruined our last scoop when one of the kids absentmindedly put it in the dishwasher, and now that old scoop's surface is oxidized and leaves gray streaks in the ice cream. Never again!

Arrived warped

Was really excited about this product for homemade ice cream. Made the ice cream, hand washed the Sumo, poured and... what’s this? The lid wouldn’t reseal due to being warped. I ended up using strong rubber bands on each end to keep the top sealed. Wished I had thought to try the seal before making the ice cream. Live and learn.

Perfect for ‘Store Bought’ Ice Cream

I noticed most, if not all, of the reviews on these containers said they were being used to store homemade ice cream and I’m sure they work great for that. I don’t make my own ice cream; but I was looking for a storage solution to my ice cream dilemma. It’s just me and my husband, so it takes us a while to go through a half gallon of ice cream. Unfortunately, that big half gallon tub takes up a lot of freezer real estate. I wanted to be able to split the half gallon into two containers to save space. When we finish one container, it gives us needed room in the freezer. "Why not just buy ice cream in pints or quarts?" you ask? Because it’s too expensive that way. Sorry, when you’re on a fixed income you have to be frugal. So buying ‘in bulk’ saves money and storing it economically saves valuable freezer space. Win, win, for me!Now as far as the containers go: They’re great. They resist freezer burn (a biggie when the ice cream lasts a long time), slim design fits easily in tight spaces (including the freezer door), and they’re dishwasher safe. I’ve never had a problem with the lid not sealing properly or popping off. I’m very happy with these ice cream containers and would recommend them, even if you don’t make you own ice cream.

Great Ice Cream Scoop - but they spam your email

Love the ice cream scoop so far. Time will tell how good it turns out. However, after purchasing they sent me emails AFTER midnight everytime asking me to review. Buying stuff from them puts you on their spam list. You have to manually unsubscribe from it. Had to dock two stars for both times they caused my phone to go off while we were sleeping! Please stop annoying your new customers. It's a good way to lose business.

Not Stainless

After a couple of years of light use the “stainless steel” began to flake off in the dishwasher. The scoop is high density plastic with a metallic paint cover. It still works fine and overall is a good scoop but it’s not the product advertised.

Not my favorite

These aren't my favorite for storing ice cream. I find them clunky and hard to get all the ice cream out. There is no difference in hardness in this and regular round container. Since they are the perfect size for 1.5 quarts, I actually use them to get my base cold in the refrigerator. The base pours right out of it and into the machine. I will use my silicone round containers for the ice cream in the freezer.

Exceptional quality but the shape is odd

Very pricey but the quality is exceptional. However, you can't really make a nice ball shape with hardened icecream due to the shape of the scoop. It will, though, make a nice quelle using soft serve ice cream. It's also good for a clumsy boyfriend who doesn't know how to use a traditional icecream scoop.

Great for freezing homemade ice cream/sherbert

Very convenient size for freezing homemade ice cream or sherbert. Insulated so that it stays frozen for a significant amount of time when you have it out of the freezer to serve. Very satisfied with this product.

2 different sets and the lid’s don’t fit well at all - especially once ice cream starts freezing.

2nd update - still disappointed: the lids make the container useless for freezing. The vendor did send me a second set because of the poor fit on the first set (kudos vendor!) however the lids to this set are always popping off while freezing. Not a good design as this makes them pretty useless for their intended purpose.UPDATE: without me requesting a return or replacement, the vendor automatically sent me a replacement for my 4 pk. The lids seem to fit good in this pack so perhaps the first set was just faulty. I would buy from this vendor again. Not as smooth as you think

It doesn't cut through ice cream as smooth as it's advertised. It does a decent job as a ice cream scoop but it's not the best thing I've used

Questionable quality

There's a huge black smudge that will not come off. This makes me question the quality of stainless steel used. Not all stainless steel is created equal. There is such a thing as cheap Chinese stainless steel and I have a feeling this is it. It's not the same quality SS you would see from All Clad or Made-in cookware. Disappointed.

Pretty but not functional

I loved the looks of this container but the lids doesn’t really close all the way. We had to be really careful how we placed it in the freezer.

Hefty

I didn't expect this ice cream scoop to be hefty, but it is heavier than my other scoops. It's stainless steel, unlike an aluminum one that I have. This one definitely scoops better, even though the other one has the feature that there's something inside the scoop that would melt the ice cream on contact. This one scoops very well and my ice cream comes out nice and round. I also like the grip on the soft rubber handle that my hand feels secure that it doesn't slip off when I'm scooping. This will be the ice cream scoop I'll be reaching for from now on to scoop my ice cream!

I found it difficult to get hard ice cream out of the container.

Easy to dish up servings and fits easily in freezer

I love mine! I have both the 1 1\2 qt and this set which is 2 1\2 qt. My ice cream machine makes up to 2 1\4 qts. I first bought the 1 1\2 qt because my first machine only made that much. Even though my new machine makes more, I still use both sets depending upon the recipe size. But I really like being able to put a whole batch into one container. After the ice cream hardens, the long shape of these containers make it much easier to scoop out a serving into a nicely formed ball. I also like the way they come apart for easy cleaning and the base design seems to prevent frost from forming inside the container.

Works better than advertised!!!

This container arrived very promptly. I was a little surprised that it was shipped in just a regular manila envelope without out any cushioning. It did however arrive in great shape. I love these tubs for homemade ice cream. I am new to ice cream making but I knew that the container I used to freeze it in was just as important as the ingredients themselves. I know the Italians use a low profile container, and I figured I couldn't go wrong with that and the double wall insulation. My ice cream does not freeze as hard as a rock nor does it develop the ice crystals I read about in so many ice cream maker reviews. I am overjoyed with my purchase and will be buying more in the future.

The Best Ice Cream Scoop

The day of receiving my SUMO scoop, I was immediately surprised by the great quality. Picking up the scoop, it felt heavy and balanced in my hand. Not to mention the shape of the handle made it easy to hold. I noticed that the metal of the scoop itself is very solid and has a slight point, which I was a bit skeptical about. So, I put the scoop to use and found that not only did the slight point of the scoop work, it worked better than any other scoop I had used previously. I tried it on a pint of Ben and Jerry's Cheesecake Brownie ice cream and the scoop easily sliced through the brownie chunks that I sometimes have trouble getting through with a spoon. This scoop makes scooping ice cream so much easier, and with the apparent quality I bet the scoop will last for years to come and I'll definitely be ordering another one of these scoops as a gift sometime in the future!

Very pleased!

I originally ordered the 2 pack of green and reached out to the company to see if they would sell me one green and one purple. They responded quickly and said they did not have mixed colors other than the 4 pack. BUT they sent me an extra one anyway. I got blue :P. I am happy and appreciate it nonetheless.My only concern is that my homemade ice cream had ice crystals start to form quickly. My previous containers that were smaller did not have this happen but I am not sure if it was because I had more in these tubs and left them in the freezer longer than the other tubs since I had more to eat through (almost a month this time).Overall, I like these containers; easy to open for me and my tiny arms, very easy to clean and space saving. I will be taking one to my parents for them to try. I am sure they will love it!

Too small

This ice cream container is way too small and way too narrow. The ice cream freezes more solid on the sides than it does in the middle, The outer case is impossible to remove once it snaps on..I haven't gotten mine off yet. I'll buy a square ice cream container because these are terrible unless you just want 3 portions.

Wonky edges and rusting

First scoop we ordered had asymmetrical edges on the scoop blade, so we returned as defective and received replacement. Replacement arrived with same wonky edges, so we thought maybe that was just how it was designed. Unfortunately, after the first washing, spots of rust appeared along the edge of the scoop so we'll be returning. Thought this could be a good alternative to the non-dishwasher safe Zeroll scoop, but were sadly disappointed.

No ice crystals keeps ice cream perfectly on the freezer does not have cracking issues like Tovolo

Would recommend this product to anyone who makes a lot of their own ice cream. Watched a few YouTube videos which talk about how SUMO does not crack in the freezer unlike some of its better known competitors.

Update: the company reached out to me and sent me new containers - the lids fit much better! I may have had a one off issue with my first order. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these now, and customer service was incredible!I like the size and the idea of these for homemade ice cream, but one of the lids is curved and won't fit securely, resulting in freezer burned ice cream if you don't cover it with something else. So I basically spent the $$ on just one usable container.
